On occasion I wood take the position of RTO (Radion operator) and walk the sweeps down the middle of the road with the lead squad. Normally I carried the M60 and walked with the squad 50 to 100 yards off the road center. This "flanker" squad would be on both sides of the road in the role of ambush prevention It worked very well.
