Comments: WELCOME HOME!I came out my shell in March 2001. I have found over 120 of my alpha brothers with help from other guys.17 Alpha originals & 67 replacements met in St. Louis in may 2002 for the first time in 35 years. There were a few sad moments but I mostly laughed for 4 straight days. I and the others had a great time and are looking forward to meeting many more guys of the TRIPLE DEUCE in San Antonio in oct,2003. If you are sitting on the fence about rehashing your Vietnam Ghosts, they will never leave you. But by meeting your old buddies, some of the pain gets lifted and the healing starts. About 20 of your combat brothers had died since Vietnam. Do not deny yourself the chance of seeing the remaining combat brothers. In St. Louis, were Bruce Blakeslee,Dwight Brennenman,Joe Fraiser,Kenny Gengler,Louie Gross,Gary Hartt, Terry Humpert,Larry hansen, Jeff Snellenberger,Richard Liens, Tom Murray,Mike Rupolo,Ray Zacherella,Gary Whitney, Bill Zarchary,Richard Wylie,Danny Ryan & Ival lawhon. Most of above have already committed to attend San Antonio. In addition,Ed Davis is going. Also Gary Waddington,Dennis Alexander,Ron Phelan Eugene Tyres, Tim Kirby,Roger Cote,Dennis Delmonte,Capt Both, and others whose names I cannot recall as I am having a SENIOR MOMENT. I am now the offical locater for Alpha Co.If you served with Alpha co.in Ft. lewis or Vietnam, please give me a call at 503-632-6955. I have rosters for most years of Alpha Co. and can help you locate your buddies. Hope to see you in SAN ANTONIO!!!

It was hard just Four days before Christmas, but I was not alone. Little did I know that I was going to meet people that were going to become as close to be as my own family. From Ft.Lewis to Vietnam I was in the company of some of America's best. The best part we did not realize it at the time, only the reflection of time did we come to realize this. Comments: Mario: I was very flattered to see a couple of my stories in the "What we remember section." Thanks. I also enjoyed your story about your trips to Saigon. I figured out a similar scam when I was at Dau Tieng. As a medic I knew we didn't have an eye Doctor at our base. If you complained about your eyes they had to send you to CuChi. I complained about my eyes and was duly sent to CuChi to get them checked. My complaint was the suns glare blinded me, and made my eyes water. The eye Doctor told me to wear sun glasses and sent me on my way. Jeez, not even an overnight? At the airfield they had guys signing a manifest for the flight back to Dau Tieng. I asked what would happen if they had more people than seats. The Flight Sgt. said the others would have to wait until the next day. AHA! I moved to the rear of the line, and didn't get a seat. I spent about a week at CuChi frequenting the EM clubs. I stood at the rear of the line, and signed the flight manifest everyday, just to stay legal. I ran into one guy in the casual barracks who had been there for weeks! I had thought he was dead. He was still there when I left. One day they put everyone in the casual barracks on a nasty detail. I had learned at Fort Polk about using my real name for these things. I always had a fatigue shirt (Just for this sort of thing) with no name tag. I signed in as Ford, Glenn Sp/4. As soon as the NCO turned his back, I took off for the airfield and made sure I caught the plane. They gave me some static, and threats of court marshall, when I got back to Dau Tieng; But I just said "Hey! I tried. I can requisition the flight manifests as evidence if I have too. No further static over that, but I never was very popular around base camp. Wish I had been smart enough to figure out a scam to get me to Saigon.

Comments: Gary: Was that the eight track in TY-ONE-ON? I recall several guys had tapes sent from their home towns. Local DJs were pretty good about sending actual tapes of shows, or making special recording tapes (Which didn't have commercials, which I actually missed; but the patter was a little raunchier) for the troops in 'Nam. I had two for years. Both from Chicago, of course. One from WLS, and one from WCFL which had just gone Rock at that time.

Comments: Hello to all, It is a pleasure to be a part of such a proud unit, The Triple Duce in Vietnam I just wanted to take the time to express my gratitude to one of our members. I for too many years carried the guilt of WHY ME (PTSD). I was at a loss! I having my second heart attack and not being allowed to go back to work. After 26 years of driving and delivering new cars to dealerships all over the USA. I did not know what I could do. To make a long story short I had reached the end of my time as I saw it and my future was short. Then came my contact with Magnet. Norman came to my aid, he saw that I needed the help of a professional and after many emails and telephone conversations I went to the VA. I was on the right path, receiving the help that I needed for so many years. Norman even went to the extreme of dredging up the memories of Fire Support Base Burk, and sending a notarized letter to the VA in my behalf. As a result of Norman’s actions I now have a bright outlook on life. I am 100 % service connected. As anyone that knows Norman to this date will not take credit of looking out for his men he still thinks it is a normal thing to do. Well I am here to let all our members know that I for one will never forget him or what he did for me in nam and after. To me Norman you are and always will be my Hero My Sergeant and my Friend and Brother. Thank God for you and bless you and yours. Michael G Wager Hq & C Co 2/22/25 67-68 PS. I visited my uncle last week after not seeing him for 30 years. He went to his room and wanted me to read some letters my father sent him from Dau Tieng. It brought up alot of emotions I had suppressed for a very long time. So I decided to find out what the hell happened. I never thought he wouldnt make it. He had alot of combat time in WW2, and Korea. He was 1st sargent O.L. Midkiff Co A 2/22M. Any of you triple duces that knew him please drop me a line. You guys are the BEST.

Before active duty, I was in the 50th armored Div from New Jersey (National Guard). Loved the machines and that is why the 2/22 was always different to visit. Comments: Hi guys! Great Web Site! I served in the triple deuce with Charlie Company. I arrived in Sept 67 and left in Sept 68. I spent my time with the 3rd Platoon and then supply, and then back to 3rd platoon for the last month. I started on the ground, and when a drivers slot opened up, talked my way into it. I managed to then spend the next 6 months driving, and when a slot opened up in supply, I took it for 3 months. Then I spent the last month back in the field driving a track. Reunions have been great for me. I went to my first one in St. Francisville, LA, then Gettysburg, then Dallas, then Cleveland, then St. Louis, and now San Antonio. I recommend them for any Vietnam Vet. After one, I cannot imagine not making them a high priority every 18 months. I just feel so good about my time served and the men I served with. It was important in my life and still is. See you in San Antonio

Comments: Mitch, I fired off an e-mail to you last night. Let me know if you did not get it. I had some cumputer problems earlier. I remember Chester "The Molester" Harbour, who was called "butt can" too. I have been looking for him. Any clues? There couldn't be two Harbour's could there? He was always called people a deusch-bag (spell?) He went to Saigon with me in Apr. 1967. We got healthy again, and had a ball. Lynn

Comments: Hi Mario: Well it is good to see someone else has picked up a computer and has opffered to work himself to death for the good of his brothers. It will become a passion/obsession to find them all, to tell all the stories, and this is good. We have but a small window of time to get it all done. That window of time gets smaller every passing day. I wish you well on your efforts. Iwas but one of the gunship teams that came to visit you on more than one occassion in the middle of the night in some largely unknown piece of jungle. I was with Joe Deitz's squad through the whole thing--the first squad. I have a May 20, 1966 Charlie Company roster with your name on it. Private E-2, just like me. Here are some names: Merrill McKillip, Plowhorse Pohlman, George "Ferggie" Ferguson, Chester The Molester Harbour, Rich Miller, Steve Cowlthorp, Capt. George White, the frigg'n George Walker boat that took us over. What a tub! Send your e-mail address Brother. Join us! We are getting the old unit back together and trying to write down our story. I am a 28 year old daughter of my deceased father, Lawrence Kent Hubbell (they spelled it wrong on his uniform as Hubell) who served in Vietnam after being drafted, and no one in my family will tell me anything. We were susposed to not make contact with charlie, but everyone knows how that works. We had left the apc and crossed a small stream. After we walked about a klick we saw charlie running from their camp. We moved in and I fragged a spidder hole. to bad charlie was in there. As we moved out there was small arms fire to our flank. We moved around to help the other platoon out. We started crawing and all hell broke lose. We were cought in a v shaped bunker complex.I don't remember how long the fight lasted. We were all shot up perty bad. Lt. called fire support enemy close. Then med evact landed long enough for us to get on board. Only five of us. They flew us to chu chi and then I was taken back out to the chopper and flew to Cam ron bay. The next morning I was sent to Japan. I can't remember much about it. When I arrived in Japan Some General came by one day and pined me with the purple heart and bronze star. One day Gipsey Rose Lee cam by the hospital and that was nice. If any of this sound familiar to anyone I would like to here from you.

The problem is that he doesn't talk about things much and I can understand why, but what he does tell I can't understand where he was located. He once told me he was part of a mechanized unit that was "search and destroy" he was there during 68 to 69 and I know specifically in Sept 69. On his DD214's it has listed as last duty assn HHC 3rd Bn 61st Inf but on some other papers I found it says he served as in infantryman with the 2/22 mechanized 25th infantry near Tay ninh (sp?). All I have are slides with various soldiers names on them and some places. I would really appreciate any help you can give me to help with my search. Thanks so much!!

Comments: Still looking for guys that served with my dad. He would like to see or talk to them again. Bill Noyles? contacted me and looked him up. He said that during his tour he was in A 2/22 25th from Dec 68 to Dec 69. He had a buddy that didn't make it back named George Pierce, from Alabama (I think). He also had a buddy that did named Denny or Dennis, who lives in NY. If any of these fellas sound familiar to you or my father (Randy Kommer) get in contact with me please. Thanks and god bless!!

Comments: This sight brought back alot of memories. Ft Polk in the cold rain, Ft Lewis basic with B Co,the General Walker(that we almost rolled over)and being in country. I have only seen Tom Firtl, Paul Engle, and heard from Jerry Reed. Hans Pinkapank is supposed to live about 10 mi away but I have not tried to see him, and I do not know why. I Remember Sgt Warner, Cpt. White, Lt Frydrychowski, Dillard, Slatter, Webster, Walt Kohler,Fred Goodwin, Carl Applewhite, Gene Hahaj, and if I take some time there will be other names, I can see the faces. I miss you guys, but I to not miss the predicament! Bought a M37 this summer so I guess some of it is still in me. God Bless and take care

Comments: Good web site. The Order of the Ant should be given to all those who make the effort in the future to attend. Mine hangs at home for all to see. If someone asks I tell them it's a secret society! We all need to put an effort into contacting guys that came after we left and didn't have the good fortune to know more than just your squad or platoon. Lets not leave the rest of our family out there and help get them to Kansas City. Special thanks to Gary for his more than extra effort. Thank you to all those who contribute and make this web site possible.

I can try to send them, and if I get the error messages again, I can perhaps chop them into pieces, and they will re-assemble on the page and if put side by side, no cut will show. Comments: the other day i was laying down on my bed and thinking, the thought was had the Vietnam war, has effected so many people it is a issuse today as it was 30+ years ago, i guess the reason is that most people in all walks of life, are the one's that went to Vietnam and saw what war is, and then you have the ones thaty protested the war and instead of doing there America duty, ran to Canada or where have you, these type of people are always tryiung to make it up to us Vet.,even people like John Kerry a turncoat, will lie for the shame that he carries and the gulit, nice to have them carry the gulit for a while, but what it show's me is that, 1st we the VietNam Vet. was right in doing our duty, and they who ran and protested were wrong, i have a talk with one of the VietNam era Potesters and his, excuse was he was a young kid that did not know better, and i say that is just another lie for WE the VietNam Vet. was the young ones, none of your type still can not just say you were wrong being young is a poor excuse. i just wanted to share that, with some of the VietNam Vet. that are still out there in the streets, still feeling gulity, thats all

Would also like to comment of the men of the 1st Infantry Division that hit the mine or bomb with there APC, this threw me right back to Vietnam this happened to us on May 27,68. Bob Price myself and most of the men were on top, I awoke two days later with a fractured left wrist which to this day is tough, spleen taken out, but all of us survived. And then to here the treatment of the 4 civilian workers beaten and burned and hung on the bridge what kind of people are these. It makes my skin crawl, if the armmory would take my decripid butt as trade on the 60 I had I feel I need to do something, I'm sure alot of or all you triple deucers feel as I do. Just venting.

Comments:Hey Mario, I am glad I talked you into being webmaster. the site keeps getting better all the time. To David Budd, you are AWOL and so is your brother Dennis. Please give me a call your email does not work. To Don Ryan, I hear you are still drinking in the same bar in Lake Ronkokoma some 40 years later. Is the Tavern on the Lake still there. I still remember a major bar fight in the winter of 1963 or 1964, the lake was frozen solid and the fight left the bar and moved to the frozen lake surface. To Randy Kommer, If you were in 'alcholic alpha', Clarence Simponson got a tape from the NYC radio station in early 1967 and "I'm a believer" was on that tape along with "Winchester Catheral"(a song I still hate today). Everytime we came in from a mission that tape played over and over for the 1 day and 2 nights in the Dau Tieng base camp in the EM bar "Ty 1 on" A trivia answer just for you Randy Kommer. Please see my post about this in the archived guestbook.

Comments: Served with Charlie Company, 2/22, 25th Inf from June 1969 through May 1970. Left Cambodia a few days after the road ambush on the 22nd of May 1970. At the time of DEROS, I was on the CO's track as the battalion radio operator, but spent most of my tour with 3rd platoon. I went to tunnel school late 1969, so did most of the demo work for the platoon, including blowing up the convoy of NVA trucks in Cambodia. Does anybody recall the day we were looking for a tank and found a Volkswagon with a bazooka on the roof instead. Lost a bunch of good people in both Vietnam and Cambodia. Wish I could remember the names of those later in my tour, but I only carry the names of those KIA before we went into Cambodia. If there is anyone out there from 3rd platoon, drop me a note. There was a Clifton Mack, better known as "Jimmy Mack", Jim Daniels from Kentucky and I'll have to dig up some of the other names. Welcome Home!

Comments: I was with B company, 2nd platoon, 4th squad (white square) 2/22 from March 69 to March 70. I was home for about a month when I watched Triple Duece on tv going into Cambodia. I carried the M-60 for 5 months before graduating to the 50 cal, then to squad leader for the last month and a half. At the time I knew the layout of the AO but, since no one ever gave me a map, I'm only now learning the names of a lot of places. Question: Our tracks were marked with symbols so you could identify anyone at a distance. If I remember correctly the colors were red, white, blue, yellow for A, B, C, mortars, respectively. 1st platoon had a 1, second platoon a circle, third a triangle, and fourth a square. None of the pictures I've seen of Triple Duece have these markings. When were they used? Joe Spado. I didn't have much to do with the mortars except to let them know where the ambush patrols were REALLY going to be before we went out. You guys could keep a secret from the Platoon Leaders and the CC and no rounds from H&I fire ever came close to us even when we were nowhere near where we were suppose to be. THANX!! All the mortar support was great and the only time I ever saw a screw-up was when a short round (wet powder?) landed on some ARVNs. I think the brass came down on the CC over it. I saw the round hit and at first thought it was incoming from the NVA. This is a great site. Glad I found it.

Comments: I just had another flashback. Bravo was working with some ARVNs in the bush on foot away from our tracks when a 51 cal opened up on us. Everyone hit the deck except 3 or 4 ARVNs with M-60s. They stood there firing in the direction of the 51 cal fire. Those guys looked like Rambo standing there spitting fire. I don't think anyone got hit on either side. After we got back to our tracks at dusk the rains came. We all got into the tracks to keep dry and some ARVNs were yelling into the tracks at us. The Chu Hoi said they were pissed because, since they were the only ones that held their ground earlier in the day, THEY should get to stay in the tracks to keep out of the rain and the Americans should get out and get wet. Their commander went around yelling at them while beating them with a stick. It was funny as hell and I felt sorry for them as they got soaked for the next couple of hours. Steve

Comments: Hi guys want to wish all a great 2005 and hope to see many at KC in May. I have a trivia question for Boat guys and those who trained at Ft. Lewis. I am still on a hunt for my uniform because i want to take the CIB off it.I was looking for my dog tags and found with them 2 little emblem pins that are attached with a goLd chain about 1 1/2" in length separating the 2 metal emblems . One is the Ivy patch with raised gold words on a gold surface above that read"4th division" and below the Ivy leaf emblem in raised gold letters on a gold background is the phrase "USA" the other metal emblem is a 22nd unit emblem. I was wondering where they came from. Now in Ft. Lewis all my spare money went for beer and other essentials. I was after all an Army hating draftee and can not picture buying them with my own funds so they must have been issued to us but do not know any other details. Does anyone else have this silly thing? and know when and why it was issued/ Was it something to go on the class A uniform?? Or what?

Comments: It is my sad duty to report the death of Andy Leach. Andy was an Alpha boat Original. He died on Friday Feb 25,2005.He was born on 10/03/43.He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years(married 9/18/65)Helen Oszust. He was a 40 year employee of the Buick Motor Div. retiring in Jan 2005. Andy lived all his life in Birch Run, Michigan and enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodcarving and nature walks.Surviving are his wife Helen,3 children Andrew Leach of Cape Cod,Mass.; Dale Leach of Grand Rapids and Troy Leach,Sr.; a grandson Troy Jr., 2 granddaughters Nicole Leach and Shanna Douglas; 4 brothers, Larry, Jim, Chris and Earl;2 sisters, Janet and Helen. Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister. A funeral mass was held on Monday Feb 28,2005 at Assumption BVM Catholic Church, where Andy was very active as a lay reader. Louis Gross was able to attend the service and express the condolences on behalf of Triple Deuce. Andy's firstborn was 6 months old before he saw him. Andy got a bad concussion from a fallen tree limb while doing jungle clearing. He was an APC driver for the 1st gun squad of the mortar platoon. Other squad members during his tour were Joe Fraser(CN)Sqd ldr, Bruce Blakeslee(NY), Lou Gross(MI),Lyndon Burkes(KY),Larry Hansen(NE), Gary Hartt(NY)(on occasion when in trouble). I was fortunate to havde known Andy during our army service both in Ft. Lewis and Vietnam. I also consider very lucky that I was able to renew our friendship in several phone calls since 2001. Andy was thought of highly by all that knew him. We had hoped to get him to a reunion but he died rather suddenly from Melanoma cancer that was just discovered in Dec 2004. It was diagnosed too late and was in the menstastic state and spread thru the lymph nodes and actual cause of death was a resulting brain tumor growth. I was advised by my VA councilor to inform Helen Leach to file and Agent Orange Claim as Andy"s death due to Agent Orange caused cancer is classified as service connected. Please say some prayers for the Leach Family, especially Helen who was gracious in talking with me last night.
